Quick Blog Traffic Tip - Link To Another Blogger

Here’s a quick blog traffic tip for today. Try and make it a regular pattern to link to and even focus on another blogger’s blog. Spend some time continuing the discussion they started or recommend an article they posted to your readers. In other words, send some link love.

In life you will learn in order to receive you first have to give. Blogging is the same. In order to receive traffic from other blogs you need to send some traffic. Bloggers love to return the favor and this is essentially how the traffic flows from one blog to the next.

If at first it doesn’t succeed, be patient and try another blogger. I can promise you if you keep linking to other bloggers it will come back at you…eventually. Of course don’t spend 100% of your blog posts doing this otherwise no one will have a reason to link to you. You need to keep up your pillar article writing as well.

Stick it on your “To-blog” list now!

Very good advice. It’s hard to expect links and hat tips when you don’t give them out yourself. Link freely!

Yaro: Have you checked out Blogtipping. The little craze Easton Ellsworth started over at BusinessBlogWire.com?

It’s a great way to get involved in link love.

Hi Tom - I think I have heard of Blogtipping, but only in passing.

Concepts like that are great but I think what works best is link love purely for the sake of spreading good ideas (as opposed to for the sake of link love). It works great both ways but there is something more powerful and natural when you send or receive links just because you were inspired/inspired someone else enough to generate the link.

That’s ultimately the best way to do great SEO and generate the best traffic because the message is about the idea, which, to the right people, is very compelling.

By implementing a blog linking strategy, while it’s still good, it somewhat reduces the credibility because you are sending links for the sake of links.

That’s a great tip… I’m posting it with a trackback to you on my http://blogseorssmarketing.blogspot.com/

Quick question though… I copied the link associated with the blog post, is this the correct url?

Now, I’m not really sure about posting the track back in a free blogspot blog…

If I just link to you in the post, will that work?
    thanks

Agreed, Yaro. I started blogtipping back in April as a way to forget myself and offer a few compliments and suggestions for other bloggers. It’s a monthly recurrence - or, as you said above, “a regular pattern to link to and even focus on another blogger’s blog.” This morning I posted links to 19 excellent blogs that I’ve just discovered because other bloggers went and blogtipped them. If no one goes “blogtipping,” that’s fine with me. What matters here is the principle of recognizing other voices in your niche and sharing knowledge with others.

And you’re right - linking solely for the purpose of getting a link back is a hollow practice. Linking to help other people and maybe get a link back in recognition is a different story.

In the end, I find it interesting that my blog’s traffic typically increases very little when I link out to other blogs. The biggest benefit isn’t traffic, but rather mindshare, if you will - getting people’s attention and letting them know you’re alive and care abotu what they’re saying.

David - if you link to this post with another WordPress blog a blog system that automagically generates pingbacks then you should be fine.

If you want to be 100% certain then you need to copy the trackback URL, which unfortunately this blog theme doesn’t show you easily, but it is

[…] What is one of the best ways to get the incoming links flowing? I’ve said it before - start sending out the links from your blog if you want them returned to you, but do it in a conversational manner so that it makes sense. This post you are almost finished reading is a fine example of sending out a link when it makes sense to. […]
