Dealing with spam

That sounds weird. I got a lot in the beginning, but that was before I activated it. Since then, I don´t have more than 2-3 a day.

I am not sure how akismet works, but maybe it has something with the contents of your site? For instance, if you have a site about online poker or viagra, akismet might think that most comments about poker and viagra should not be considered as spam?

This was just something I thought about right now, I have no idea how it works or what your blogs are about.

Sounds like I should try turning it off or uninstalling it then reinstalling it to see if it work

Vanquish is looking like a very decent bit of spam prevention software, a lot of the "Alist" bloggers use it.

I have not heard of Vanquish, but I found this list of interesting spam tools for wordpress.

I have heard a lot of good things about Spam Karma 2, but I haven´t tried it myself yet.

I haven't really had a problem with spam yet, not enough traffic. It is increasing by 10-20 visits each day now though.

I get lots of spam to a couple of my blogs. I do use Akismet which just holds it all and only the occasional one gets through to my comments. All comments are moderated so the spam doesn't get published - unless it's very cleverly disguised. I'm astounded to sometimes find 3-400 in just one day sitting in the spam folder.

Thanks to all. I have made a decision as to what I am going to do with my blogs that are currently on Wordpress.com. I am strictly enforcing my spam policy that I put into place a few months ago. If the system thinks it's spam, then it's spam and will be deleted. If it is one that the system puts into the moderation queue, then I will look at it. I made this decision based upon the fact that I don't have the time to read down through all the spam regardless of the fact if they are newcomers or not.
