Post Schedule Ping Optimizer

For those of you who edit old posts regularly, or who write posts and future date them, you might want to look into installing the Post Schedule Ping Optimizer.

It will help keep you from getting banned for spamming the sites and will speed up your edits a little. Every time you save an article, WordPress pings whatever sites you have set to be pinged. They don't generally like being pinged more than once every 30 minutes, so if you edit a few articles in a row then it will keep pinging and you won't actually have new content on your front page. They take a dim view of this and might even ban your site.

It will also prevent you from pinging sites when you publish an article but future date it. Instead, it will wait to ping them after the article is actually published, and I think that it will do the trackbacks at that time as well. This is handy because it keeps sites from setting your trackbacks as spam if they check your blog and don't find the article it is supposed to point to.

I've been using it for a while, and have been happy with it. The plugin is free (or it was when I downloaded it a year or so ago) but they'll ask for your email address when you request it and will give you a few OTOs.
