Ok so I was just about finished this awesome article about email newsletter formating. I was in the zone and I honestly believe it was one of the most well written articles I have ever created...it just flowed out of me and felt so good.
I hit the save button and it had a transmission error. I clicked back and it had reverted to my last save, missing all the amazing stuff I had written. I checked the saved files and nope, still the older copy. FUCK!!!!!! Gone, completely gone from this unviverse never to be seen again. I can never create the same article again and the amzing content I just wrote will never ever be exposed to the world. It's just so sad. Stupid Word Press/Hosting servers/Internet in general ![]()

What type of error is a "transmission error"? Was it generated from wordpress? If so get a better web host :P
But seriously, bad luck about that. I know what it feels like to be "in the zone". Always happens to me while I'm at work (IT consultant and ASP.NET developer by day), I'll break away to write an article or so forth. It's bad though because it distracts me from what I'm REALLY supposed to be doing Time flies when your "in the zone".

Yeah James, it was most likely my webhost or net congestion. It's the first time it has happened so I was caught a bit unawares. Normally I copy articles to my clipboard as a "just in case" for this kind of situation but I was so in the zone I didn't bother (which should have been a reason to be extra cautious).
Life goes on... So are you going to post an intro about yourself?

Oh dear Yaro! What a shame!
I'm sure I've done that before... can't think when or what on, but I know it was good info. and I worked really hard. It's so damn annoying! I don't know what all this ASP.NET is; I know it's something to do with coding which sounds pretty scary, but I'd love to be able to learn a little more advanced computer languages i.e. PHP, Javascript etc. So, what does PHP do? I know a little HTML and use Javascript for my (pretty lame) games website. I'm looking at going into an online business with games, but I just got a rough quote from an online (Australian) games developer company, and it'll work out at something stupid like $AU 133000 to 166000, which is approx £58000 - £72000! I'm sorry, but I think someone's taking the mick a bit there. I think I'll try to learn the code myself, but it seems like one heck of a mountain to climb at the moment. Anybody know of any (hopefully cheaper) ways to get an online games website that is pretty dynamical in terms of user accounts, leaderboards etc. - everything automated? I hope you can help me out! PS - good luck with saving your work and making this forum grow Yaro! I too copy HTML onto the clipboard when I'm editing my website. What do you mean by in the zone though? Catch you later. |

Hi Benjamin,
I am a .NET Developer specialising in Web Development. The only stuff a browser natively understands is HTML and client scripts (Javascript & VBScript). ASP.NET and PHP are technologies that generated the HTML and scripts on the web server and then send them to the browser to be rendered. Most data-driven web sites are based on server side generation of HTML. ASP.NET is a platform developed by Microsoft to develop Web Applications in .NET. It's the most productive platform, but has a high learning curve and requires a Microsoft Windows Server and IIS to be installed. PHP is the open source alternative. It's free and there are a lot of people out there using it. PHP can be used with Apache Server which is also free and runs on any operating system I know. There is also a project called Mono that copies Microsoft .NET (including ASP.NET), so that you can develop in and run your .NET apps on *nix (Linux, Unix...). You'll need to use a lot of client script to create a interactive web application (i.e. your games site) or you might use AJAX, but that won't be easy. Most useful web games I have seen so far were implemented as Java Applets, because it's performant and you can pretty much do anything with it. Hope this helps. (Of course, copying this text to my clipboard, before submitting it ;-)) |

Haha, pretty good! It would be "Wo wohnen Sie" or "Woher kommen Sie" .I live in Baunatal, Hessen. It's a little city close to Kassel (where I used to live). About 250,000 people live in Kassel. I am not sure about Baunatal, it's maybe 30,000. Where are you from? I lived for about a year in Stafford Springs, Connecticut one year ago. |

I'm from England, near but definitely not IN Birmingham. There's such a difference in accents in England, and I have the black-country 'yam yam' accent derived from 'yo am' (you are) and 'yo ay' (you are not) - it's pretty funny when you meet a person with a strong black-country accent!
My English football team is West Bromwich Albion, but if I supported a German football team it would be Werder Bremen. Also, wie geht es Ihnen? |

Do you speak German or do you just plug this into a online translater? I am not interested too much in football, but if I had to choose a team it would be Bayern München. |
