Hi. As I explained in my introduction, I am planning on moving from Blogger to Wordpress in a few days time. However, I have experimented a bit with Wordpress, and I noticed that you can copy your posts from Blogger to the new Wordpress.

If I do this, will Google penalise me for having duplicate content on my new site, that has been transferred from my old .blogspot.com site?
Also, I use feedburner for my feeds. Will I just have to change the URL to the new .com address, or do I just paste in the same form code into my new blog template? Will my old readers have to re-subscribe?

Thanks in advance,
Adnan

Google might penalize you, but I wouldn't really worry about it. The best idea would be to put redirects in place to send your users automatically to your new domain if they go to the blogger site (not sure if that is possible but probably not) - the next best thing would be to put links to your new site on the old site so they know where to go in the future. You could even take the content out of each page and leave a link that says "Go here for xxxxxxxxxx"

If you use FeedBurner, just replace the feed location with the new one from your new site. Your users won't even notice a difference unless they click through. If you leave it at the old address, then your feed will never update unless you add your updates to blogger, which defeats the purpose of moving to your own domain.

There's a very good import system in WordPress 2.0 now so it won't be hard for you to transfer your content.

I wouldn't worry about the duplicate content penalty at all. It might have a little affect initially but once you start blogging on the new blog Google will very quickly realize it's the site being updated frequently.

Ok thanks guys.
I dont think Blogger allow you to use redirects, but I will probably use the other method, and at the top of every page have my new site address.
Yeah wordpress moves all your posts from Blogger I think which is a great feature!
Thanks for your help guys,
Adnan
