If someone posts a blog that casts my service in a bad light, should I remove the blog or does that seem a bit dishonest? Whether the blog is fair, correct or even posted by a competitor can't be determined by the other readers so the veracity of the post can never be established. If I simply erase it then those who have seen the post will simply conclude that only "happy customers" are welcome which isn't the case.
I've yet to start my own blog and wanted some guidance on how to handle posts that I don't agree with. |

Mike,
Do you mean if someone posts a negative comment on your blog that you should remove it? You should read Yaro's newsletter titled "Dealing With Cowboys" if you haven't already. He covers this pretty well. Send me a PM and I can forward it to you. If you've got a great service, product, or blog, your readership should defend and validate you. Leaving all comments (that are not obscene or distasteful) will paint you in an objective light that will help with trust. I usually like to post negative comments and then express appreciation for the alternate views. However, I'm also not trying to sell anything on my blog. |

I leave negative comments (when I'm lucky enough to get them) and I try to respond to them with respect and courtesy. This is a key factor in building a community. People have to feel that they're free to say whatever they think and that you're listening. Besides, squelching negative comments won't stop them (if you're lucky). It will only move them to someone else's forum.
