Smile Suggestions for local site

Does anyone have any suggestions how to bring traffic to a local site? My site is South Bay Parents Online and it is just relevent to people who live in my area (which is the South Bay part of Los Angeles). Has anyone ever tried making flyers advertising their site and leaving them at local businesses? Going door-to-door with flyers? I am considering doing this and am wanting to get some opinions....thank you!

you could venture on off-line advertising if you think your local community can relate to your blog or has reliable internet access. good luck on your blog!

I have a quick idea which may help: go to all internet cafes in your area and ask them to set your website as homepage for their computers' browsers. Maybe they'll do it for free, who knows?

Use Kijiji and Craig's list to advertise your services. Following their guidelines to the word, does allow advertising of websites. Both will target your specific region.

You can look in to sites like Craigslist, as Tennreb suggested. I know that one of my former employers who runs a local business actually uses it as her sole way to advertise.

You also may want to put up fliers or something similar. Maybe you can get an ad on the radio or in the newspaper?

I don't know for sure, but I'm curious to find out how effective something like Dojo Hut would be on a local level?

Paigy has a good point with the Fliers--After looking at the Content of your Site. I believe it would benefit you to do as paigy suggests. Every grocery store you go into has a wall dedicated to Fliers. The Content of your Site should be appealing to such a crowd ( Mothers and Fathers Shopping for the Family )--Somewhat of a Targeted Traffic!! Give it a Shot. I am in Construction and have gotten a few good customers at the Local grocery store.

Hi South Bay Mom!

It seems to me that your target group is parents who frequently use the internet? I would suggest making a list of the top ten sites that appear when you do a search for your geographical location. Then write to the people who run the sites and see if you can work out a link exchange.

I would also try printing business cards that have your web site address on them and asking doctors offices (dentists, chiropractors, etc.) if you can leave them in a business card holder on their counter.

Lastly, make sure the local press knows about your blog (I'm assuming your web site has a blog?). Several clients of mine have had great success with local publicity because reporters love locals who blog for some reason.

Cheers.
