Default How do you define - ethical blogging?

Hi all,

Share your insights on ethical blogging - what things you considered as 'ethical' in blogging? Or, what is your code of ethic in blogging?

Cheers!

ps. You can read mine in my blog.

Your blogging is ethical if its in the interest of the readers. Im gonna assume your blooging to build a business, so as long as its a win win situation for you and your reader then thats ethical but if its just your site plastered with affiliate links then its "unethical". Ones idea of ethical is not the same as someone elses.
I'd rather look after my business then just sell to make money.

Default My version

This resolution of my dilemma (that so much of marketing is phoney) has only happened in the last week or two for me. So it may still be pretty rough and need lots of refining.

My realisation: I am delighted to make money by making friends and providing excellent value.

I totally agree with you! Alas, so many unethical blogs out there act more as a classified sites than a blog. Nothing wrong with this, but is it ethical? In my opinion, no.

Way ethical! I put it this way: I'm not sure whether my friends will eventually buy something for me. But, hey, a friend is usually glad to buy you a cuppa coffee if your blog is inspiring to them.

From my personal experience, I found out that there are some people (I just met online) that actually 'tip' you by clicking on your PPC ads, not because they found the link interesting, but because they feel your blog brings valuable insights for them. There's no way I can track this, but they told me in their email about it!

Yaro has done a pretty good job of showing us how this is done.....give to your consumer and only expect a reward as a by product of this contribution to their lives.

My two cents

ethical blogging for me is when you observe the copyright rules as well as you create original and fresh content for your blog visitors.

Good one! It's painfully hard for us to do this if the only source of our income is from blogging, but helping people DOES have results, sometimes in the form of financial rewards.

That's what bloggers should do in the first place! You often copy someone's content just because you are not aware of the copyright. I think having a button from CreativeCommons.org or copyscape.com does helps a little, although some bloggers are deliberately took somebody else's work, regardless the CC or copyscape warnings.
