Hi,

I am trying to increase the amount of rss feed readers for my blog, is it worth submitting to blog directories to improve this?

Also any comments on other ways I can improve my blog would be great

Thanks,
Kev

My answer to this questions is generally - no, unless it's very late at night and you have nothing else to do because you are too tired so why not go join a couple of directories.

Submitting your site to blog directories if you're lucky might get you 1-2 new RSS subscribers.

Writing great content and having conversations with other bloggers will help a lot more.

Good luck!

Ok thanks, I haven't got comments enabled on my blog at the moment as I'm worried that I won't get many comments which will look quite bad. SEOmoz suggested in their 21 tips post about waiting until you have 200 RSS subscribers and 750 unique daily visitors, would you agree with that?

Hmm, I wouldn't agree with that. I think comments should be on from day one. What you have to do is get talking about other blogs - link to them - so you can bring in at least one or two comments on your pillar articles. When those comments come in keep fanning the flames by responding with more comments, asking questions, etc.

SEOmoz probably makes their recommendation because it doesn't look good to have no comments in terms of social proof. I agree with that, but I think it's possible to encourage comments effectively from day one, if that's a traffic strategy you are going to focus on.
