Hi All,

I'm getting ready to move my blog off of blogger. I have my URL registered and the host server set-up. All that is left is picking a software package. I've read a number of posts here mentioning WordPress, and WordPress seems to come up a lot on other searches I've done. So, my question is, is WordPress the hands down choice? Anyone have other suggestions? Obviously, since I'm a blogger, I'm looking for free or cheep, I prefer Open Source. Oh, in case it matters, I'm a computer programmer by trade (.NET), and would consider myself expert on HTML. So I'm not afraid to get my hands dirty if need be. However, after programming all day, I want to work on my blog, not blogging software, so I'd prefer something that doesn't require a lot of tweaking.

TIA for any advice!

Cheers!

Rob, I started with b2evolution, and switched over to WordPress after about 6 months. I much prefer WordPress. Drupal seems to be the second choice for what I see being used around. I'm much the same boat; I program all day, I just want to write content at the end of the day for my own stuff.

Hi Blaine,

Thanks for the reply. Funny, because B2e was another one high on my list. After visiting their website I was impressed. Haven't visited Wordpress' website yet, but I'm heavily leaning that way. The only negative I've read about wordpress is that it contains "spaghetti code". I can live with that, as I don't plan on coding in it too much .

Cheers!

I never work on the wordpress code base itself; I don't want to have to remember to make a change after an update. The only coding that I do is making minor edits and tweaks to plugins and in my themes, which are as clean as you make them.

Wordpress has treated me much better than b2.
