I have a website on Microsoft Office Live and it is theological in nature. I don't want to clutter it up with a bunch of flambouyant affiliate ads so I thought a blog would be better as far as monitizing income is concerned. The free Blog offered by MOL is a bit rigid and so my question is this. Will a Blog created in WordPress be compatible with the MOL platform or are there issues that I need to combat first? Can I use the same domain name and server, (it's free for 1year), I have for the Blog or am I about to get blind sided with a load of trouble that I can't even imagine? I'm so new to all of this that I don't even know what I don't know, on the other hand, I'm pretty sure that I know that much! Alas poor Yorick...

I'm not sure what exactly you are trying to do, and I haven't use MOL at all so I don't know specifics.
I did a quick search and did not see any way of importing your MOL site into wordpress outside of copying and pasting each article. If you are asking whether you can use WP to power MOL or vice versa, I doubt it. I did see one person that had trouble moving their domain off of MOL, so if you are going to do that I'd suggest moving it before canceling your account. I haven't seen the terms of service, so you would want to check that first to see if you own the domain name or if Microsoft does; you may be out of luck if MS owns it.

I was looking for a way to have a website and Microsoft Office Live seemed to have it going on, free hosting for a year etc... The Blog thing was an afterthought and I'm afraid, (though not sure), that MOL may not offer me enough flexibility to incorporate the affiliate connections that I will need in order to adequately monitize my effort. After looking at Yaro's ideas, I thought I would start the Blog in WordPress but then I questioned whether or not I would have to get a new domain name and server location, which I really didn't want to do. It seems senseless to have to pay for 2 hosts if I don't have to, and I want to keep the same domain name for all of my stuff.
I just don't want to get into a new project that ends up in the scrap heap before it has a chance to launch. I still need to do some more research in MOL re: the flexibility issues and I think, from what I've read, that the affiliate programs etc... in theory will translate across any platform. So my issues become, can MOL compete with WordPress, and if not will WP be compatible with what I've already started? I can only hope that this whole quandry, (that I probably put myself in), is as simple as just changing the destination link on my website and away I go. I'd appreciate your thoughts. Thanks, Charlie |
