There are significant SEO advantages in having static pages that do not disappear in the archives. That's especially useful if you link to them from your blog pages so that they get a high internal page rank. (Actually if you don't link to them from your blog pages there's no SEO advantage since they are just on the same internal page rank level as pages that have vanished from the front page to the archives. That is assuming that your blog's main page is also your domain index.)
Here's good news: You can use the wordpress pages (not posts) for the static content. It is even possible to have individual templates for each page you create. Thus you have the same control over look and content as if you made your page with NVU while keeping the advantage of having all content in your wordpress.
