Pictures on blogs? necessary or not?

when i first started i did not use pictures at all. Then afterwhile i felt that i needed to add them to make it more appealing.
So yes its good to have them on your blog.

Yes readers need something to break the monotony of just words on a page.
But one of my blogs is in a niche that really does not lend itself well to pictures

In this case I just used coloured fonts occasionally to break things up
