Default Wordpress Customization Question

When you look at cPanel®, you can see that it is powered by Wordpress. It looks like no Wordpress blog I've ever seen. So here's the questions:

1. Is that type of customization easy to do?
2. Can the info be found to teach one how to do it?
3. Are there templates that allow the user to just "plug it in" and skip all the code?

Please advise.

Thanks in advance.

Did you mean to link to Yaro's blog there? Because despite the pretty design (which Yaro bought custom) it looks like wordpress to me...?

Blaine,

I do mean Yaro's blog - don't know why it puts that cPanel word in there. It seems like his layout is much more customized than what I'm finding with WP themes. Is that not the case? If so, how do I customize the existing themes to add my banners, sidebar ads, and text links?

Okay.

Yaro just had a custom theme designed; you could have similar functionality with any theme with enough tweaking and the appropriate plugins. If you want to teach yourself theme design, then the wordpress codex is a great place to start, but if you don't want to spend the time you could hire somebody to tweak an existing theme pretty inexpensively.

Main Page « WordPress Codex

Just tell them what you want to have appear and how you want it to work and if they know what they are doing they could probably get you a tweaked theme within a few days. If you have a new theme designed from scratch, then that is going to cost a bit more.

If you want a quick way to get that functionality, look for a theme that already has it. They might cost $50-$100 but that's money that is well worth spending, in my opinion.
