How to Optimize Your Blog

I'm used to websites and I optimize the title tag and link pages together and some other online activities (not to mention the backlinking for offline).

Anyway - I might be using blogger - can anyone give me some pointers on how to optimize blogs? Also - can they even be better than websites as far as ranking in the SERPs (my guess is no).

I've always guessed that optimising blogs is about content generation and keyword density - lots of on page SEO - plus back links to new posts, in the same way as you would do back links to webpages on a website.

In addition, someone once told me that search engines also take into account traffic on blogs and certain pages of blogs which will determine the pages individual rankings.

I agree with Chris that keyword density is vital, however something 'sneaky' that I have done is set up fake email accounts in Yahoo, Google and MSN and then subscribe to my own RSS feed. That way at least these search engines will 'get the buzz.'

Also make sure that you use Google analytics and paste the code in your footer, as well as setting up an account with webmaster tools and pasting this code in your header. This will ensure that Mr Google is a good neighbour, and drop by from time to time.

But I have to tell you I have seen a lot of blogs on page 1 of Google with no content. I can't figure how they get there. Blows my mind.

What do you guys think the disadvantages to using a website instead of a blog are? Do you think the search engines in fact give more merit to a blog than a website?

Blogging is a very good thing, if you are writing for the users who like you blog then definitely you should target the keyword related rich pages and once can also get their blogs in top positions in SERP's as similar to as website.

One thing to note is that regardless of blog or website, you still need SEO and content for SE's to give you good rank. Personally I don't think that SE's give more merit to one than the other. Both are considered websites and if you want a successful website or blog, then you have to do the same things regardless.

Yup both are consider as a website but I think it's all depend on the content of the site.
