Default Wordpress captcha plugin

Can someone recommend a Captcha plugin for comments on Wordpress?! All my blogs are getting comment spammed to hell and back

Captcha is one of those few things that works exactly as it is supposed to and yet pisses everyone off while doing it.

I would say forget Captcha and get yourself an API key and use Askimet.

My 2 cents.

I agree with Hugh, I hate Captcha. I started using Tan Noodles Spam Filter and it works even better than worst offendors.

I may lose a legitimate comment without ever seeing it, but my guess is that there are far fewer readers using words like phentermine or tramadol on my site than there are commenters who would be annoyed by a captcha.

If you are going to use one, then you might want to look into ReCaptcha. It's a particularly annoying one and you have to enter two words, but the goal is to help improve OCR and at least the work of entering a captcha isn't wasted.

it's a fair point about CAPTCHA, I'll get an api key and try askimet. Thanks

CapCC is a Wordpress Captcha plugin used for user registration and comments. Let me know what you think.

I use both Askimet and Spam Karma, and I haven't had anything slip through the cracks (or had a legit comment killed) yet! Captchas are definitely annoying.

Two problems with the SpamKarma and Akismet approaches - you still have to manually delete tons of comments. Plus, I don't like the idea of actually allowing all those spam robots on my site to begin with. I don't want my site to be recorded as 'spam-friendly'.....

So I recommend BadBehavior. It's busy blocking spam comments even on sites I haven't publicized yet!

Dixonge, do you moderate first time commenters? Just curious...

I haven't, but that is probably a good way to go - moderate the first comment then set 'em free.
