Submitting to Blog Directories

I have been following the videos that Yaro has for starting a blog and it states to start creating blogging pages but does not tell us to submit our blogs to blog directories. I read somewhere that you need to submit your blog to different blog directories.

I am on Wordpress, should this be done? If not, when do you start to do this?

I'd wait to submit until you have something on your site, and then I wouldn't spend much time on it. It doesn't hurt, but it probably won't help a ton either.

Speaking from personal experience, it all depends. One of my biggest sources of traffic has been a super-targetted webring but most of them don't deliver a lick of traffic. I'd recommend you set aside 2 hours to just finding and submitting your site to the directories and then put it out of your mind and focus on higher leverage techniques e.g. Social media, guest posts etc etc

The backlinks from blog directories should be combined with the backlinks from the articles submitted to article directories (on topics closely related to your blog's most important keywords).

A properly developed backlink program will deliver far more targeted traffic to your blog due to its impact on the search engines than due to the actual directory links themselves.

For best long-term benefit submit to 3-5 blog directories and RSS submission sites PER DAY.
