I was unable to view the videos on becomeablogger.com. I see an outline with a white field and in the top left corner a small colorful icon - no video at all.
I tried the solutions suggested on the site. I upgraded to Flash 10 and cleaned out the cache. No change. I have a Gateway computer with Windows XP. I get automatic updates -- checked and have the latest. I was using IE version 7 and updated to the latest version 8. No change. I checked IE Silverlight - I have the latest and disabling it didn't help. I have Windows Defender I have free editions of SuperAntiSpyware and AVG Free -- both updated daily. I have an old version of Norton AntiVirus, maybe from 2004. I've looked through my IE options and don't see anything that might be the problem. I'm wondering if it has something to do with Active X controls. I can view YouTube videos and news videos like MSNBC. If a site posts videos I can see some of them usually, but not all of them. For example, Huffington Post: I can view some of their videos, but not ones they post of Jon Stewart or David Letterman. This is the first time I've been at a site that had their own videos that I couldn't view. The problem viewing some videos isn't new -- I've been having it for a while. Since I have automatic updates I didn't know what created the problem. It might have taken a little while to notice it so I couldn't connect it with anything in particular. Any tips or ideas where to look will be greatly appreciated. |

I looked at Yaro's contact directions which said post in the forum first. After a day and a half in the forum with no reply I did send to support@becomeablogger and haven't gotten a reply from them either.
I thought this was probably something common, but it must not be. I also posted on an IE 8 newsgroup and haven't gotten a response either. Thanks for the suggestion Blaine. |

Blaine,
I was just looking through IE/Tools/Internet options again and found a new area I hadn't looked at: Security/Trusted Sites. Under Custom Level/ActiveXcontrols and plugins, "Display video and animation on a webpage that does not use external media players" is disabled by default. I assume the default settings are for security reasons. Do you know if it is safe to enable that setting? |

I just enabled it and it didn't make any difference. I've been trying to resolve this problem for 2 or 3 weeks and am not going to spend any more time on it. It's a small thing and not worth the effort. |

Gideon at support@becomeablogger.com did reply prompt to my question, but his email was caught in my spam catcher.
He did not have a solution to my particular problem, but did work until he found a workaround for me to view BecomeABlogger videos. Since my settings are all default, I'm surprised that others haven't had this problem. I guess that's a good thing. If you do have this problem, I don't have a solution for you, but can only say that support@becomeablogger.com will work to help you with the videos related to Gideon and Yaro's sites. |

This thread in the Adobe Forum talks about problems between IE 8 and Adobe Flash:
Adobe Forums: Flash Error: Failed to install go to... Adobe Forums: Flash Error: Failed to install go to... I think there were bugs in either IE8 or Adobe Flash (or both) when I installed them and they've been worked out now. Today I downloaded Flash 10 again and I can see all videos. The thread above gives tips if that still doesn't resolve the problem. Some people had to download an older version of Flash and install 10 over it because 10 wouldn't upgrade over their version. All is well. |
