Up until about 10 days ago, I’ve never had any problems purchasing anything online using credit cards period, but today was the third consecutive obstruction I’ve had with online purchasing.

Each company required me to do different things to prove my identity like calling in, signing and sending off forms, and just waiting for fraudulent clearance. It's a right pain in the bloody backside!

I would like to know if any webmasters reading this forum that have payment options on their websites have been informed of any new security updates that have recently been installed to the credit card verification software?

I’ve experienced another problem today when attempting to buy FlashFXP online for $25. Here's the mail I received earlier:

Quote:
To Whom It May Concern:

We value our customers and take care in processing orders accurately.

The current status of your order is queued due to the fraud warnings listed below. Please review the order details and contact us if you would like further information, or would like to provide or clarify any information that would allow us to process your order. You may contact us by e-mail at sales@inicom.net or by phone at 866.446.4266.

Order Details:
Product: 1 copy of FlashFXP [Electronic License Only] Ordering IP: 203.209.44.132 Fraud Warnings: The city where the order was placed does not match the city where the credit card is registered: ordering IP distance: 9,517 km.

Thank you for your business.

Anyway, at least this email told me why there was a problem, and it was as I suspected, relating to the IP and UK conflicting details but why now all of a sudden?

What about paying for dinner while on holiday in Beijing when your home is in Bolton? Restaurant’s verification system in China, tourist using UK card to pay for lunch! Hmm! I can see a lot of folk on their holidays washing the dishes if this is the case Lol!

I just find it all a bit strange that's all. Anyone else abroad having problems?

Aitch

Hi Aitch,

One of my payment processors, Paymate, have blacklisted countries and would simply deny any payments that came through if the IP is from certain countries. I don't think Thailand is on the list but Malaysia may be.

Certainly by using a UK credit card in an Asian country you are always going to flag warnings online. It's the anonymity of it all, not to mention the proven credit card fraud record that makes all the companies suspicious. I for one, as a previous victim of credit card fraud, am happy about it.
