Any idea if books on flipping real estate would be relevant to this? I couldn't find any on flipping websites...

No, doubt you would find books on flipping websites - it's too new (there's an idea though!).

Real estate flipping guides would be at least a little relevant in terms of concepts - but the practical would be hard to apply since the variables are so different.

I think you are better just reading/listening to everything you can find online and just get into it.

Yaro, I have a few targeted questions that I cannot seem to get answered. So far you look like the info king on this subject. Here goes:

How do I turn over the MySql databases that my sites are running on? (I use Joomla for alot of my sites)

How do I actually transfer ownership of a domain to another owner? Do they pay the transfer fee's?

It depends upon how you are transferring your site to the new person.

If you are transferring just the code and web pages, then you will have to back up the database and give them a way to install it into their own databases, as well as point the code you are giving them to the new database (whether you are making the change or just telling them how to make that change).

Another way to transfer the website is to transfer the entire hosting account where the site currently resides. I don't know but I expect that this is the more common scenario. In that case, if the database is hosted locally with the webhost, then it should just be a matter of transferring the name and billing information on the hosting account over to the new person and making sure that they have a list of any users and passwords for the databases.

You can do a domain name transfer to a different person than is originally owning the rights to the domain. Usually, they will want to transfer it from your registrar to their registrar. Who pays for that should be part of the sale, whether it be you or them. Domain transfers are usually a fairly negligible fee; I've never spent more than $10 for the actual transfer of the domain. I imagine that buying a website will hopefully be getting you significantly more than that.

Blaine has pretty much covered this one. In the exchanges I have done we do an SQL export using phpmyadmin and then dump it to the new server. Since most of the sites I deal with are WordPress blogs I simply download then upload the wordpress files, re-delegate the domains and done.

Hey there-

One thing to watch out for is transferring mysql databases between versions. It can give you headaches.

I am in the process of transferring all of my blogs over to a new hosting account that has a diff mysql version.

to save you some headaches, what I did was to create the appropriate tables with no data in them on my new server, (if using joomla or wordpress you can just run a basic install and it will do it for you, then go through an empty all data (I didn't empty options so that my old blogs address didn't get stuck in the new install))

then dump the data from the old database, just the data as a text, open in text editor and remove all the extra jargon aside from the INSERT{blah blah blah} stuff. (PS I didn't dump the options portion just all the rest on a wordpress transfer) then copy and paste into the new database sql query page. and presto. you've transferred. If using a wrodpress install like I did this transfer should overwrite the user the install setup and your password and user name will be the same as the old one but setup for the new server and web address.

Hope that saves some frustration.

Sound like a good idea for the new ebook. However, probably need to find more classic case study on blog site especially and can deliver the idea to flip website like a crazy, just like real estate.
