I think Joseph is right on the money for your situation........write the report!

Then follow some other methods to distribute it! I would offer the report free on a squeeze page and advertise it everywhere!

Write articles and/or use chapters from your report and in your resource box, point back to your site and your report.

Definately SEO and make sure your site is unique and has unique content posted regulary, like in your blog????
