I also have an ever-increasing wealth of Archives and info on different ways to Make Money Online. To increase user interaction on the site, I have weekly Polls and the Blogtrepreneur Forums.

5. Current traffic: Approximately 2000 unique visitors per month and around 4000-5000 pageviews per month. About 90-100 RSS readers but it fluctuates from day to day.

6. Traffic goals: At the moment I only get around 60-80 uniques per day. The blog has been running for about 6 months now and I want to get that over 100 uniques per day with more than 3 pageviews per unique visitor. I would also like to reach 1000 RSS readers in 1 years time (by December 2007).

7. Personal goals from blogging: At the moment I make around $100 per month through blogging, however at times this is inconsistent. I would like to make $100 every month in 3-4 months time, and up to $500 per month in 6-8 months time.

I want to have a large database of readers and users of the site that I can launch future products to, and who can help me build up my internet empire.

8. Other goals: I also want to be successful in the world of AIS - by creating eBooks to sell on different sites, each of which will have lots of information on different topics. I really like writing and so want to use this skill to create other business opportunities.

Field Report Title: Does the Alexa Widget Increase Ranking?

Explanation: There has been a lot of debate over whether or not the Alexa widget increases rankings. I saw that Yaro had a post which explained how the putting the widget in his sidebar DID increase his rankings by 25%.

Naturally I wanted to test this theory myself and so put up a little button in my sidebar, showing my visitors the rank of Blogtrepreneur compared to all the other sites in the blogosphere. To obtain the widget yourself click here.

Results: Initially I saw no real change. My traffic rankings remained at around 110,000 to 120,000 thousand on a daily basis. This was 1 and a half months ago. Around 2 weeks after I added the code however, my traffic ranking decreased to 105,000. More frankly, my posting frequency had also dropped due to the Christmas period and so the increase in rankings had nothing to do with more content by me.

4 weeks after installing the code my ranking dropped to 90,000. Then in this past week my ranking has managed to get down to 85,000 with around the same posting frequency as before the widget implementation.

I think it's pretty obvious in saying that for me, the Alexa widget had a massive effect on my rankings. A result of this may have been the selling of 3 text links through TLA but I can't know this for sure.

In 3 months my reach per million users increased by 81% and pageviews increased by 154% even though uniques remained fairly constant at 70-80 per day. To see more details go to Alexa.

In conclusion, if I say that my ranking was 115,000 before the widget, I managed to increase my rankings by 26%. I do believe that this widget can help boost your rankings, but you can only find out if it works for you, if you try it out.

Does Alexa only get their numbers by people installing the Alexa bar? if so, I wouldn't think they are a good measure of site rank?

Or am I completely off here?

@ Richard: Yep you're sort of right. Im no pro but from what I understand Alexa only records your rankings based on how many people using the Alexa bar have visited. But quite a few people on Internet Explorer have this, and the SEO thing for Mozilla is becoming quite popular as well, so in fact more and more people have the Alexa toolbar (this in fact could be another reason for the increase in rankings )

But it is a well-known fact that Alexa isn't the most accurate of tools as a site with a few thousand uniques per day can oddly have a ranking of 1,000,000 or so (I've heard the horror stories!)
