Question Naming My Blog

Hi. I have a dilemma. I'm having a problem with naming my site. I won't use the names I'm considering, but I will show a similar example. Say I want to have a blog about popsicles. The two names I'm considering are popsicle.com or thepopsicle.com. I like the first one because it's shorter and to the point. But then I like the second one because it seems to flow off the tongue better, sounds catchier. Any opinions?

Default Naming My Blog

That is the $64K question. I usually go to Domains.com and just start plugging in a word or words until I find something that hasn't been taken. Unless you make up a unique word like smartyoo, which is mine, compound words each of which has no correlation to one another, or some really strange word that most people aren't familiar with, I'm afraid every known word in the English language has been taken. You never know though. You might find one/ones that have been overlooked.

Good luck,
Jim

Smile A Clarification

Jim,

Thank you very much for your response. Let me be a little more specific, however.

I already know what my domain names are going to be. I may buy both because they're so close, but what I want an opinion on is, which would sound better, popsicle.com, or thepopsicle.com? Which flows "off the tongue", so to speak. By the way, my website has nothing to do with popsicles, it's just an example. I'm looking to see which would be more applealing.

Again, thanks for the response!

Omar

Omar-

I understood that neither were the real names.

If I had to choose between the two, it would be popsicle.com. However, it sounds like your personal preference is 'thepopsicle.com' as you've characterized how it sounds when spoken.

I don't particularly like seeing the word 'the' as part of a domain name unless the site is about a band or a film.

My advice is to buy both, pick one to use (probably the shorter one) and then set the other one up to forward to that initial domain. You can then tell people to visit thepopsicle.com since it is easier, but everything appears on popsicle.com.
