WordTracker and WordZe are the best keyword research tools out there. I don't really recommend keyword research software like niche bot or keyword elite. Hosted services like WordZe are much better...

Keyword research is a vitally important aspect of your search engine optimization campaign. If your site is targeting the wrong keywords, the search engines and your customers may never find you, resulting in lost dollars and meaningless rankings. By targeting the wrong keywords, you not only put valuable advertising dollars at risk, you are also throwing away all the time and energy you put into getting your site to rank for those terms to begin with. If you want to stay competitive, you can't afford to do that

Just my 2 cents...

I have used Keyword Discovery & Wordtracker, both are great KD in particular because it's an Aussie product!!

But it's hard to beat free - & lately I've been using Google's external keyword research tool. I've found the data is very current, eg, I can view July's data a few days into August, plus I can limit the keyword data to a specific country. For example, I can research what people are searching for in just Australia, or just Belgium, or whatever. None of the others I've used have this level of granularity.

here's the link:

cheers

Wordtracker is a good place to start. You may use first the free version. Then you can buy the full version or SEO Elite

I use the google tool for search numbers, have used wordtracker in the past - but find Web CEO to be the most comprehensive!
