I am completely new to blogging .. in fact .. I haven't blogged yet.

But I have a question: In trying to decide between WordPress.com and WordPress.org ... is there any difference from an Optimization point of view?

The difference is that you don't own your blog at wordpress.com. You are at their mercy if they have server problems or decide they don't like your site or you eventually decide that you want more control over your site than they are willing to give you.

I'd go with a standalone installation on your own server from wordpress.org for any new sites that I was going to set up. In fact, I do.

Also, from my understanding, you are not allowed to have advertisements or basically to monetize your blog in any way if you are using the .com version. If you really want complete control, I would go with .org and host it somewhere on your own.

YOURBLOG.Wordpress .com OR org means that your BLOG is hosted FREE on Wordpress Web Servers.

It means that you have no control over the Web Hosting OR your WEB DOMAIN

Wordpress blogs are really good for hosting a free blog, but you will never own your domain.

Instead you can purchase a domain with .COM or .ORG like

MYBLOG . com

Then simply purchase some economical hosting plan from Godaddy or hostgator ( baby plan costing $4/month).

Once you purchase LINUX hosting and your own domain, you can simply install wordpress BLOG which will run on your own domain.

You would be having 100% control over your domain, and you dont need to bother about server issues/restrictions imposed by wordpress web servers.
