Default Page dropped by Google...

Hi all!

Just realized that the main page (index.htm) of my blog has been dropped by Google! There are still sub pages (static and posts) in the database... but my index page is gone.

The same happend back in August/September and the page reappared after a month.

Is it just me or have it happend to others within the same time span?

Are you sure that the page was dropped? Google doesn't always return all of the pages it has indexed when you search. Have you looked in webmaster tools to see if they have any notices of why it is not appearing in the index?

In the Google search box try typing in site:yourdomainname.com (substituting your domain name). It should return all of the pages Google has indexed for your site. If your main page is not there maybe check to make sure you're not linking to iffy sites. I've heard that that could get a page banned.

OMG!! I just remembered that I tweaked my meta tag two months ago and added a bunch of keywords!

What was I thinking!!! Don't fix something there is already working!!!

Ok, fixed the meta tag and even optimized it using this Meta Tag Analyzer:
Website Webmaster Search Engine Tools

I hope that GoogleBot will drop by soon!

Regards

I realised that the new version of Blogger add a new "NOFOLLOW, NOINDEX" ROBOT tag....

Thank you Blogger!

Well that sucks. I'm glad you caught it in time though before your whole site got deindexed.

I think that there's a privacy setting in your options page; I don't use blogger so I'm not positive about that though. It probably turns on/off those tags.

I just did a quick search of their help files and found this:
What does the 'listing' blog setting do?

So click on yes and see if the tags go away.

Well the damage is already done. Either my main index or blog post pages can be found on Google anymore!

Now that I have fixed the meta tag, I assume that I'll just have to wait for GoogleBot to drop by again or do you recommend that I submit the main page again?

How often do GoogleBot visit?

Thanks for your help...

Depends upon the website, but it probably won't be long. Just see if you can get a link in a new place somewhere, such as a new forum signature or something, so that it will have a reason to visit again. Once it does you should be all set.
