Default How much does site maturity impact SEO?

How much does site maturity impact SEO? Should I make an "under construction" page and register my site with search engines before it's up and running for SEO purposes?
Thanks

I can only comment on active sites, if you have a site thats 2 years old and another thats 1 year old, the older site will have more weight for SEo in the eyes of the search engines.

The age of a domain is a big factor, especially by Google. You come off as a more trusted entity when you've been around since 1996 as opposed to a fly-by-night domain opened yesterday and closed tomorrow.

However, an under construction page while you're developing your site isn't necessarily going to make a difference. We're talking more of a site being years and years old here ... not whether it launched in January or June.

Default Age is a factor

Age is a factor, but it can be easily overcome with content or a decent site.

I have had 2 info sites go to pr2 in 3 months.

don't fret on the very short term.

I already had shared hosting so my only non-time investment was $1.19 for the domain.

Some say that this factor in SEO depends on the page you are constructing. If your page is about news then it will be at best if you always send hot updates.

Here is something I have looked up about page maturity:
Age of the Page

This depends on your content model. If you focus on news, then fresh pages are better. If you provide regular content, then the age of the document is computed with an overall relevancy score. There are many other factors to consider, like domain age, link age and number of links, but it can be one of the trust factors.

I found it at Search Engine Optimization, Google Optimization - SEO Chat

Default Don't Upload the Construction Page...

Yes...by all means, don't put up the Under Construction page.

Also, maturity does matter, but not like it used to be. For an example, one of my client's site is five years old and his competitor is 11 years old. We are now beating him out in a very competitive niche. It's how you play the game that can get you past these older sites.

Putting an under construction page on the domain is useless

You'd be better putting up a few free articles from ezinearticles.com - at least they will have a variety of keyword phrases in them that will start to "theme" your site - as important as "aging"

Yes, you should register it now. First of all, use a little business sense – what do you plan to do if someone else registers it in the meantime? On the SEO side of things, the age of a domain does have a major impact on ranking. By registering it sooner, you will begin to benefit sooner.
