Default SEOing a site from another country

This is the first time I'll be optimizing a website outside of the states. It is .co.uk - so I'm wondering how do I go about doing this. If he wants to rank high in the states - as far as backlinking is concerned - where should I backlink from? Sites from here (.com, .org, .edu, .etc)? Also - if he wants to rank high in the UK google - do I backlink from sites in the UK? Will backlinking from sites like EZineArticles and Hubpages help?

Not 100% certain but I've always understood that goole.co.uk follows google.com. I would utilise both .co.uk and .com sites with the same keywords. Good luck with it.

I have done that before and my tactics is linking to both .co.uk and com sites. Ezine and HUbpages are both essentials whether or not a site is fr diff country, just my POV. This sites together with Squidoo and Blogspot has been a staple for me. Goodluck!

It works pretty much the same, just that this time you will need to get backlinks from sites that are also targeting the same market or country, also you can tell google trough the webmaster tools which is the market your site is intended for.

If you want to promote a site for UK, build backlinks from co.uk websites. Its the only way to rank better for UK. Other links such as .com are still worth. But focus more on .co.uk domains.

Hi Big Cat,

It will be really helpful to have sites linked from .org and .edu websites, but if you are targeting only the UK market then try to concentrate more in that region and also you can concentrate on other geographical areas too and also link from genuine sites which are on the world wide web.

it only means that your client want to rank high on search engines, globally. It is almost the same, but this time you will need a lot of effort in increasing your backlinks from somewhere else.

If you want exposure in Google.co.uk, also make sure to host in the UK as Google will look at the country the domain is hosted in.
