Question Looking to find my niche

Great site Yaro. You have a wonderful, down to earth outlook. I am also an entrepreneur working in the world of public drinking water quality. I run a family owned company for my husband who works another full time job. I organize, coordinate, mediate, keep books do field work etc. This enables him to use his time efficiently when he is working the family biz. I feel blessed to have this opportunity but I am looking for another outlet in my office which will be “mine”, to earn extra money and to tap into my creative side. Possibly freelance writing or editing. I have no idea what company’s to explore or the best way to pursue this. I suppose I am just looking for advise, or ideas. I love artwork and writing although I am not a pro. I started my blog in January and have not learned the “ins and outs” of the bloggers world, so I only have a handful of readers, but I am having fun with it. It’s a great way to express myself while spreading the word about our precious resource, water. The Water Wheel
I am also working on a book geared towards youth. It’s an adventure, but teaches about natural resources and healthy living. I’m not sure how to promote it or even how to publish it when I’m finished but I suppose I will learn. Any input would be greatly appreciated. J Trout

Default Playing

I think the way we find our niche is by wandering about and playing around.

We find what captures our attention, we try out writing about stuff and find what we can enjoy writing about, we see if there are others interested in the same area, we see what particular part of the area we are interested in (being a generalist can be a specialty too).

Then we try out some ideas we've had, see which posts work, what we get response too.

And then we try out some more.

This is the way that all the people I know have done it. (People who say otherwise have either forgotten or not paid attention or already have done this enough in the off line world to not need to do it with their blog.)

So if you can have fun and enjoy trying stuff it should be enjoyable. I think it is really playing and wandering around guided by our curiosity and then reflecting on the results.

I hope this isn't too vague.

Default Thanks for the imput

Hello Evan,
I appreciate your comments, and I do believe everything in life is pretty much about trial and error. We just all hope the errors don't out weigh the good which can come from it. I'm having fun expressing myself, and at this point in time that's what's it's about for me. Do you have a blog? J

Default My blog

Hi J,

My blog is wellbeingandhealth.net.

At the moment it is a fairly lowly ranked one. In general it is slowly making its way up the Technorati rankings: I'm happy about that but just wish it was quicker.

Hope you keep on having fun.
