can anyone having little knowledge about SEO start promoting a site or do you need to have expertise in the subject , how long does it take to learn SEO

From what I have seen, SEO is a lot about getting all your ducts in a row on your own website (content, formating, attention to details) and then getting meaningful linkings to your content.

To me it seems to take more time than anything and I follow Chanah's thoughts on creating content for humans, although I fit things into bot rules where possible.
