What am I doing wrong?

I've been posting, created a huge pillar document and have managed to pick-up 75 people in my newsletter, but still don't have much success in making money. I'm getting about 3000 unique visitors a month. (Quirky San Francisco). My friend at Free San Francisco Photos & Videos - Pictures Of San Francisco is getting 8000 per week and he's also making very little, but his is higher due to some ads who pay him by the month; so he's making about $50/mo.

I'm a little discouraged because he posts several posts a day, I do one every day or two. He has over 700 posts, I have 156. He has no pillar articles, I have one good one (Bike The Bay ... riding a bike around the San Francisco Bay, across the Golden Gate Bridge and back to SF by ferry ... 43 page, free PDF with photos and access to free photos of SF and more).

Maybe there's something missing or we're not hitting the mark. Any thoughts or help would be deeply appreciates. Post here, or email me at: randysch@yahoo.com.
