Default Ken Evoy Gives Thumbs Down To Blog Marketing

Hi Yaro,

First, let me thank you for all the good blogging and marketing info. I've learned a lot from you that I can now use in my own blogging efforts. So thanks for that!

I just received an email from Ken Evoy of SiteSell.com wherein he gives a big thumbs down on using blogs for Internet marketing. I wonder what your response to his conclusions might be.

Is he right that blogging is not a good way to market online?

Hope you will post about his ideas on this, as I respect both of you guys and consider you both to be very reputable, knowledgeable mentors to myself and many others. Here's the link to Ken's article:
SBI! - Blog or Build?

Default Hope he's right

No more of those poxy long sales letters, YES!

I think blogs are closer to PR than marketing and closer to marketing than sales.

Default SBI vs. Blog

Chet, I saw the email from Ken Evoy re blogging not being a good business model and he has some good points but there are some huge factors that were ignored:
  • SBI sites take an age to build - and I spoke to one of Ken's protege's and he agreed
  • you can now add pages to blogs so they are not just "tips" - Yaro's blog is a clear demonstrator of this fact
  • I checked SBI case study sites and you CAN achieve better results and faster with a blog

I used to be an SBI owner so do know a thing or two about their sites and I won't forget that it was Ken of SBI who gave me a firm foundation in SEO.

That said, and whilst it has got a lot better, there is a degree of inflexibility in the SBI software, the templates are ugly and I would not be surprised if more people gave up using the software before they done building the site.

My personal suggestion is that you use a theme which allows a clear layout of pages and posts, use good categories and do more than ramble on your blog. Perhaps even start with a 10 part series to give it some initial structure.

Hope this helps.
